Small-town roots, advanced pediatric care

Dr. Chris Savoy grew up right here in the community he now serves. After earning his undergraduate degree at Tulane University, he completed dental school at LSU and stayed on for his pediatric residency, also at LSU. He went on to earn an MBA from the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and from day one of owning a practice, he has never worked as an associate. He stepped into ownership with 70 kids on the schedule and has been building something meaningful ever since. His commitment to care extends beyond the office, too. Since 2011, he has organized and led a dental mission group to the Dominican Republic, and that group is still going today.

Dr. Savoy is joined by Dr. Brown, who founded the practice in 1986 and remains a trusted, well-known figure in the New Iberia community. Dr. Hebert and Dr. Bernard round out the clinical team, bringing years of experience caring for children across a wide range of needs. Together, the four providers share the same philosophy: slow down, explain everything, and make sure kids leave without dreading their next visit. That conservative, comfort-first approach is not just a preference; it is the foundation of how Pelican Pediatric Dentistry was built.

A team that feels like family

Walk into either Pelican location and you will notice something right away: the staff moves with purpose, and they know your family. Assistants greet kids in the lobby like they have been friends forever, keep them moving and engaged, and make sure no child is stuck in a clinical position longer than necessary. Stickers, conversation, and genuine warmth are standard. The team spans a wide range of ages and personalities, from longtime staff members who have been with the practice for decades to newer faces full of energy, and every single one of them is watching out for each other and for your family. As one new provider put it after joining the team, she had never worked anywhere where everyone was so aware of what the person next to them needed.

Both locations carry that same small-town comfort, even though they look quite different. The New Iberia office is a homey standalone brick building with a warm, familiar feel. The Lafayette office is a fully renovated, state-of-the-art building with TVs mounted on the ceilings, screens above every chair, and wireless headphones so kids can watch a movie right through their cleaning. Waiting rooms at both locations are stocked with toys, screens, and library books. Blankets are available to help kids feel settled and calm. Noise-canceling headphones linked to overhead entertainment make a real difference for children who need a little extra help relaxing, often reducing the need for heavier medication entirely. The goal is the same in both buildings: you and your child leave feeling relieved, not rattled.

Pediatric dental care built around your child's comfort

Pelican Pediatric Dentistry focuses on the care kids actually need: cleanings and preventive visits, restorative treatment, extractions, and sedation options for when a little extra support makes all the difference. For families whose children have had a hard time at the dentist before, the approach here is intentionally different. The providers slow down, show parents the X-rays, walk through every option including the option of no treatment, and never make families feel pressured or judged. Cavities are common. Life is busy. The team knows this, and they treat every family accordingly.

When a child needs more than a standard visit, Pelican offers nitrous oxide, in-office general anesthesia with a CRNA on site, and hospital dentistry for cases that require it. For children with sensory sensitivities or special needs, the practice has deep experience creating calm, manageable appointments using distraction-based behavior management, sensory-friendly supports, and a hands-off approach that prioritizes the child's comfort at every step. Pelican accepts Medicaid and files insurance, and transparent pricing means no surprises when you get to the front desk. Whatever your child needs, and whatever your family's situation, there is a place for you here.
